Coyote (Canis latrans). I was walking along on the Black Oak Trail when this coyote came up over a rise about 15 feet in front of me. He saw me and took off up the hill.
I looked up the hill and knew that when the coyote got to the top of the hill he would peek out at me. But I wasn't patient enough, and took a picture of the hole in the trees while I waited. When he did look out--exactly as I had expected--my camera was "between" shots, and by the time I could shoot another photo, he had backed off and only his ears were visible.
Gray Fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus). I had just finished coming up the switchbacks on the Green Valley Trail into the park when I spotted this cute fox trotting down the trail towards me. He took off towards a hole in the fence, but then seemed to be intrigued by the beeps from my camera. So he sat down while I snapped several photos. Sadly, this was the only one which turned out in the early morning shadows. But it's for sure a Gray Fox!
